Job summary

The Calgary Food Bank is seeking a Director of Corporate Services to lead facilities, maintenance, safety, and internal services. You will ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency while supporting the organization’s people, programs and community impact.

Reporting to the President & CEO, you will guide strategic facilities planning, asset management, and operational efficiency as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education plus leadership experience in facilities/operational roles.
  • Experience managing facilities, maintenance, safety, and internal services.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change and manage budgets.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Director of Corporate Services to lead the services that keep the Calgary Food Bank running safely, effectively and efficiently. Overseeing facilities, maintenance, health and safety, and information technology, you will ensure that the Calgary Food Bank has the people, processes, and support needed for successful day-to-day operations. The Opportunity

The Director of Corporate Services will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the facilities, maintenance, safety, and internal services that support the Calgary Food Bank’s people, programs, and operations. This role will be responsible for ensuring the organization’s facilities, infrastructure, safety programs, and support services are positioned to meet evolving operational needs and future growth. The Director will provide leadership through periods of organizational change, helping to ensure facilities, systems, and internal services remain effective, efficient, and responsive to the needs of employees, volunteers, partners, and the community.

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Corporate Services will serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to the long-term operational sustainability and effectiveness of the organization.

Facilities and Maintenance Leadership:
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all facility operations, maintenance activities, building systems, equipment and related services.
  • Develop and implement long-term facilities, maintenance, and asset management strategies that support organizational priorities and future growth.
  • Lead facilities planning initiatives and support organizational readiness through periods of operational, infrastructure, and organizational change.
  • Oversee preventative and ongoing maintenance programs to ensure facilities remain safe, reliable, efficient, and well-maintained.
  • Manage facility-related budgets, capital investments, vendor relationships, contracts, and service providers.
  • Assess current and future facility requirements and provide recommendations regarding infrastructure improvements, operational priorities, and resource allocation.
Workplace Health and Safety:
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the organization’s workplace health and safety program.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, training, reporting practices, and accountability measures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, organizational standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or support workplace health and safety committee activities and promote active participation across the organization.
  • Monitor workplace incidents, investigations, workers’ compensation claims, corrective actions, and safety reporting.
  • Identify and assess workplace hazards and operational risks across facilities, programs, and community-based service locations.
  • Ensure safety considerations are incorporated into the planning, design, transition, and operation of the new facility.
  • Work collaboratively with leaders, employees, volunteers, and external partners to strengthen the organization’s safety culture.
  • Track safety performance and provide timely reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to the Corporate Services team and related operational staff.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor corporate service standards, administrative procedures, and operational best practices to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Oversee organizational processes including records management, documentation standards, office systems,purchasing, and internal service delivery.
  • Lead vendor management activities and ensure effective oversight of contracts and service agreements.
  • Support organizational planning, operational projects, and change management initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of organizational technology systems, infrastructure, and external technology service providers.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and organizational effectiveness.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and vendors to address technology requirements and priorities.
  • Support cybersecurity, information management, business continuity, and technology risk management initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of technology-related policies, procedures and standards.
  • Monitor technology investments and vendor performance to ensure organizational needs are effectively supported.
Financial and Operational Stewardship:
  • Oversee budget tracking, expense monitoring, and financial reporting related to corporate services and operational support functions.
  • Partner with Finance on purchase orders, vendor payments, and reporting processes to support sound financial stewardship.
  • Monitor operational expenditures, assess service needs, and identify opportunities for efficiencies, cost savings, and improved resource allocation.
  • Prepare reports, operational updates, and recommendations for the President & CEO and Senior Leadership team.
Organizational Support and Continuous Improvement:
  • Collaborate across departments to align corporate services with organizational priorities and day-to-day operational needs.
  • Support internal communications, policy updates, documentation, and change management related to corporate service initiatives.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, collaboration and service excellence.
  • Lead or support additional corporate services and operation projects as required.
What You Bring
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Management, Operations Management, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive leadership experience in facilities management, maintenance, operations, corporate services, or related functions.
  • Significant experience overseeing complex facilities, building operations, preventative maintenance programs, and vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operational, facilities, maintenance, or capital budgets.
  • Experience leading operational, infrastructure or organizational change initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, risk management practices, and workplace safety programs.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, build relationships, and balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational leadership.
  • Experience coordinating or overseeing information technology services and vendors considered an asset.
  • Experience in a nonprofit organization considered an asset.

Hours of Work

Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with regular interaction in warehouse and operational areas. This is a regular full-time leadership position based on 37.5 hours per week.
