Job summary

Calgary Food Bank is seeking a Community Engagement Events Manager to lead our community events and fundraising portfolio. You will provide leadership to the Community Engagement Events team, build partnerships with schools, service clubs, and sponsors, and drive donor stewardship to increase food and fund donations.

The role involves strategizing campaigns, evaluating performance with KPIs, and representing the organization at events.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in fundraising, communications, nonprofit management, marketing, business, public relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in community engagement, fundraising, events, partnerships, or nonprofit development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, initiatives, or teams.
  • Experience managing community partnerships and stakeholder relationships.

Our core belief is that no one in our community should go without food, and this continues to serve as our guiding principle for the future. We are the first line of emergency food support for people facing crisis and served over 200,000 Emergency Food Hampers to our community last year. We also provide over 80 partner charities throughout the city with food. The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Events Manager leads Calgary Food Bank's community events and third-party fundraising portfolio while providing leadership and operational oversight to the Community Engagement Events team.

This role is responsible for ensuring community engagement initiatives, campaigns, and events are delivered effectively, align with organizational priorities, and create meaningful opportunities for individuals, organizations, and community groups to support the Calgary Food Bank. The Community Engagement Events Manager maintains key relationships, supports team development, oversees event and campaign performance, and uses data and key performance indicators to evaluate results, identify opportunities for growth, and continuously improve supporter experiences.

The work of this role contributes directly to increasing food and fund donations, strengthening community awareness, building long-term partnerships, and advancing Calgary Food Bank's mission through community-driven engagement and fundraising activities.

What You’ll Do
Leadership:
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and coaching to Community Engagement Events team.
  • Support employee onboarding, training, and professional development.
  • Monitor workloads and assist with prioritization to ensure department objectives are achieved.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and performance management processes.
  • Ensure team compliance with organizational policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and fundraising standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve departmental processes, efficiency, and supporter experience.
  • Lead annual performance planning, goal setting, coaching, and performance reviews for Community Engagement Events team members, ensuring accountability and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Maintain and manage a portfolio of community partners, corporate event supporters/sponsors, schools, service clubs, employee groups, and third-party fundraisers.
  • Plan, execute, and steward signature events, community campaigns, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Track, analyze, and report on event, campaign, and fundraising performance metrics, ensuring key performance indicators are achieved and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships that increase food, funds, awareness, and volunteer engagement.
  • Support the development and growth of new fundraising and community engagement opportunities.
  • Represent the Calgary Food Bank at community events and public presentations.
  • Ensure exceptional stewardship and recognition of donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners.
Operational Management:
  • Oversee the successful execution of community engagement initiatives and events.
  • Assist in developing annual work plans, departmental goals, key performance indicators, and budgets.
  • Ensure all fundraising activities comply with CRA regulations, organizational policies, and applicable provincial and municipal requirements.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects with Communications, Operations, Finance, Volunteer Resources, and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Support inventory management and chain-of-custody procedures for food and funds collected through community initiatives.
What You Bring
Education and Experience:
  • Post-secondary education in fundraising, communications, nonprofit management, marketing, business, public relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in community engagement, fundraising, events, partnerships, or nonprofit development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, initiatives, or teams.
  • Experience managing community partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Working Conditions
  • Primarily office-based with regular attendance at community events and partner locations. This is a regular full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week.
  • Frequent evening and weekend work required to support events and engagement activities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move event materials and supplies.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events.
