Job summary

Millwood Retirement Residence in Toronto, ON, is looking for a friendly Dietary Aide to join our Food Services team. You will assist the cook, serve meals, and help ensure residents receive meals that meet their dietary needs with kindness and respect.

The role requires a food handling certificate, experience in food service, and the ability to work flexible, casual shifts. You will maintain cleanliness, support safety, and collaborate with staff to create a positive dining experience for our

Qualifications

  • Current certificate in food handling training from a local board of health or equivalent.
  • Food service experience is necessary.
  • Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, Sanitation Code.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening within 6 months, TB test within 6 months or Chest X-ray within 1 year, and two supervisory references are required.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers meals in a pleasant, courteous manner.
  • Assists the cook in preparing, plating, and serving food as requested.
  • Respect the Residents' likes and dislikes and adhere to dietary requirements.
  • Maintains serveries, tables, food storage areas, fridges and freezers.
  • Cleans and resets tables, removes dirty dishes, and ensures dishwasher is loaded/operated/empty.
  • Collaborates with all Food Services and other departments; supports FIFO.

The Dietary Aide reports to t he Culinary Services Manager a nd is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident safety by preparing and/or serving meals directed by the cook for individual residents and by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.

Wage Rate

The starting wage rate is $17.83/hour.

Vacancy

We are hiring employees to work on a casual basis to help us fulfil our scheduling needs and fill vacant shifts as they arise. We are offering flexible hours.

Responsibilities:
  • Delivers meals in a pleasant, courteous manner,
  • Assists the cook in preparing, plating, and serving food as requested,
  • Respect the Residents' likes and dislikes and adhere to their special dietary requirements,
  • Ensures that meals are an experience rather than a task,
  • Maintains serveries, tables, food storage area, fridges, and freezers,
  • Clean and reset tables and remove dirty dishes,
  • Ensures dishwasher is loaded, operated, and emptied,
  • Collaborates with all associates in Food Services and other departments,
  • Supports FIFO processes,
  • Vacuum and damp mop floors as needed,
  • Ensures a safe working environment,
  • Participates in education as required,
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Current certificate in food handling training from a local board of health or an agency of the board of health or has recently successfully completed an equivalent food handler training program,
  • Food service experience is necessary,
  • Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting is an asset,
  • Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors,
  • Familiar with HACCP, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, Sanitation Code,
  • Knowledgeable about food handling and storage,
  • Ability to serve food attractively and correctly by understanding orders,
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned,
  • Organizational and time-management skills,
  • Individual and teamwork skills,
  • Ability to make the most of the time you have to provide positive social interactions,
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing,
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (w/ in last 6 months), recent TB test results (w/ in last 6 months) or Chest X-ray (w/ in last 1 yr), and two supervisory references are required.
