Job summary

Orchard Terrace Care Centre in Stoney Creek, ON is seeking a Dietary Aide to support the Food Services team by preparing meals under the cook's direction and ensuring resident safety during meals.

The role involves following prescribed diets, assisting with plating, maintaining clean service areas, and collaborating with staff to provide meals that are nutritious and enjoyable for residents.

Qualifications

  • Completed or enrolled in a Food Service Work program at a college or private college.
  • Or completed an apprenticeship in Cook/Assistant Cook under relevant acts.
  • Or entered into a registered training agreement in the Cook trade.
  • Experience or appropriate skills in institutional/health care food service.
  • Food Handler Certification and knowledge of food handling and storage.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers meals in a pleasant, courteous manner.
  • Assists the cook in preparing and plating food as requested.
  • Respects residents' likes/dislikes and adheres to dietary requirements.
  • Follows diet/texture as prescribed by RD/MD.
  • Maintains serveries, tables, storage areas, fridges and freezers.
  • Loads/empties dishwasher and cleans tables.
  • Collaborates with Food Services and other departments.
  • Supports FIFO processes and follows cleaning procedures.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and participates in required education.

The Dietary Aide reports to the Food Service Manager/ Food Service Supervisor and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident safety by preparing meals directed by the cook for individual residents and by providing high‑quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.

Wage Rate:

The starting wage rate is $19.023/H our.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivers meals in a pleasant, courteous manner,
  • Assists the cook in preparing and plating of food as requested,
  • Respects the Residents' likes and dislikes and adheres to their special dietary requirements,
  • Follows the diet/texture as prescribed by Registered Dietitian/MD
  • Ensures that meals are an experience rather than a task,
  • Maintains serveries, tables, food storage area, fridges, and freezers,
  • Clean and reset tables and remove dirty dishware,
  • Ensures dishwasher is loaded, operated, and emptied,
  • Collaborates with all associates in Food Services and other departments
  • Supports First In First Out processes
  • Follows cleaning procedures
  • Ensures a safe working environment,
  • Participates in education as required,
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
  • Successfully completed or enrolled in a Food Service Work program at a College of applied arts and technology or a Food Services Worker program provided by a private career college.
  • Or have successfully completed an apprenticeship program in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021;
  • Or have entered into a registered training agreement in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021;
  • Or in the reasonable opinion of the Home appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in the fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality food service to perform the duties required of the position
  • Food Handler Certification given by Public Health or a certified agency
  • Knowledgeable about food handling and storage
  • Ability to prepare modified food textures
  • Ability to understand and follow production requirements
  • Ability to serve food attractively and correctly by understanding orders and diet spreadsheets,
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned,
  • Organizational and time‑management skills,
  • Individual and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to make the most of the time you have to provide positive social interactions
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Must meet current legislation
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (w/ in last 6 months), recent TB test results (w/ in last 6 months) or Chest X‑Ray (w/ in last 1 yr), and two supervisory references required
