Job summary

Responsive Group, Inc. is seeking a Dietary Aide/Porter to provide meal support and resident care in Windsor, Ontario. The role reports to Food Service leadership and emphasizes safety, quality, and compassionate service aligned with the company’s mission.

The position requires a Food Handler Certification and the ability to follow dietary plans, with flexible hours including emergencies. Strong communication, teamwork, and adherence to policies are essential for success in this caring

Qualifications

  • Food Handler Certification from Public Health or a certified agency.
  • Institutional dietary service experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including emergencies.
  • Knowlege of the Ministry or LTC, Public Health and Home’s rules and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Evidence of being person-centered and customer-focused when interacting.
  • Maintain privacy and meet legal requirements in care settings.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in department and town hall meetings.
  • Receive endorsement regarding changes in resident status.
  • Ensure open communication between staff and other team members.
  • Encourage participation in Home’s committees/teams.
  • Report observations to Food Service Manager/Supervisor relating to resident care and preferences.
  • Mentor new staff and students.
  • Support and promote a team approach.
  • Deliver ongoing customer service to staff, residents, families, and the public.
  • Ensure quality of life through individualized resident care and adherence to care plans.
  • Follow interventions according to resident plans of care.
  • Contribute to the dining experience during meals.
  • Report faulty equipment and ensure removal from unit.
  • Complete daily documentation (food temps, inventory, sanitizers, etc.).
  • Adhere to infection control and safe food handling procedures.
  • Understand quality indicators and participate in improvement efforts.
  • Monitor inventory and communicate needs to Cook or Supervisor.
  • Use equipment within budget constraints.
  • Complete all required annual education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Dietary Aide reports to the Food Service Manager/Food Service Supervisor and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident safety by preparing meals directed by the cook for individual residents and by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.

Wage Rate:

The starting wage rate is $ 24.75/hour.

Responsibilities:
  • Participate in departmental and town hall meetings
  • Receives verbal/written endorsement regarding changes in resident status
  • Ensures open communication between staff and other team members
  • Encourage participation in the Home’s committees/teams
  • Reports observations to Food Service Manager/Supervisor relating to resident care and others (food preferences, likes & dislikes, intake)
  • Mentoring new staff and students
  • Support and promote a team approach
  • Ongoing delivery of customer service with staff, residents, families, and the public
  • Ensuring optimal quality of life for each resident by the delivery of individualized resident care
  • Follow therapeutic interventions according to resident’s plan of care
  • Contributing to the overall pleasurable dining experience of our residents during mealtimes
  • Report faulty equipment and ensure removal from unit
  • Completion of documentation record of every shift (food temperature, freezer, fridge, sanitizer, dish machine, equipment checklist audit, cleaning checklists etc.)
  • Adhering to Infection Prevention and Control and Safe Food Handling procedures
  • Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home and to understand which indicators are publicly reported. To participate in the improvement of the indicators and achieve satisfactory results.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory for work areas and communicate needs to the Cook or Food Services Supervisor/Food Services Manager
  • Utilize equipment and supplies within budgetary constraints
  • Complete all required annual education
  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated Job Task Inventory
Qualifications:
  • Food Handler Certification given by Public Health or a certified agency
  • Previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments
  • Able to work flexible hours, such as emergency situations
  • Be knowledgeable of the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Public Health and Home’s rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • To show evidence of being person centered and customer focused when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
  • To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months), recent TB test results (within the last 6 months) or a chest X-ray (within the last 1 year),
  • Two supervisory references required
  • Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer
