Job summary

Deerhurst Resort in Muskoka seeks a hands-on Banquet & Event Manager to lead a 40+ person service team and ensure flawless execution of weddings, galas, conferences, and private functions.

You will collaborate with culinary, sales, and events planning teams, manage labour and inventory, coach staff, and uphold service standards, safety, and guest satisfaction while guiding operations to deliver memorable experiences.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Hospitality Management, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of banquet or event management experience in a hotel, conference centre, golf club, or upscale hospitality environment.
  • Proven experience leading and managing teams of 20 or more employees.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple events, priorities, and operational requirements simultaneously.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor staffing levels and labor costs while maintaining service excellence.
  • Address guest concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring a positive resolution.
  • Ensure all banquet setups, service standards, and breakdown procedures are completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, liquor, and company policies.
  • Train and mentor team members, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as required.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Food & Beverage, the successful candidate will oversee banquet and event operations, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, high service standards, strong team engagement, and effective operational execution. This role will lead and motivate a team of 40+ service professionals, oversee multiple functions simultaneously, and act as the key liaison between clients, kitchen teams, and service staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining service excellence, supporting cost control initiatives, and ensuring the seamless delivery of events while contributing to the overall objectives of the Resort and Food & Beverage operations.
