Job summary

City of Windsor is seeking a Planner II – Development Review to join the Planning Department. You will research and prepare reports on Planning Act applications, coordinate with multiple departments, and present recommendations to Council and committees.

Requirements include a degree in Planning or related field, eligibility for RPP designation, and strong communication skills. The role is Regular Full-Time with 35 hours per week in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Qualifications

• Must have University degree in Planning or related field.
• Must be a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners/Ontario Professional Planners Institute as a Registered Professional Planner or become a full member within three years of accepting the position.
• Must have ability to travel to off-site locations with a valid Driver's Licence and provide a driving abstract.
• Must have knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act and related legislation and provincial policies and the development review process.
• Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Must have ability to solve problems and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Must have excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills; ability to make oral presentations.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and land-based information systems; knowledge of OHSA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Research and prepare written reports and recommendations for Planning Act applications to committees and council.
• Liaise with departments, agencies, consultants and government personnel.
• Prepare by-law amendments; implement Official Plan and Zoning By-law.
• Negotiate development agreements and coordinate meetings with staff and developers.
• Respond to public inquiries regarding planning applications and activities.
• Provide expert planning advice for Committee of Adjustment, street/Alley closures, and other committees as required.
• Provide expert evidence at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings on development appeals.
• Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as per the Health and Safety Program.
• Perform other related duties as required.
