Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Design Assurance Manager - Aviation to join our team! In this role you will get to ensuring that the organization's product designs meet all regulatory, quality, and customer requirements. This role requires deep knowledge of design controls, regulatory standards, and quality management practices.

The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality products while mitigating risks and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead the design assurance process, ensuring that all designs meet the required technical, regulatory, and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement design quality assurance plans and procedures to ensure the highest design quality throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and approve procurement technical scopes of work, design documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and relevant codes and standards.
  • Conduct design audits and assessments, identifying potential issues and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate design-related risks, ensuring that all potential issues are proactively managed.
  • Work closely with the project teams to ensure that design solutions are practical, cost-effective, and compliant with project objectives.
  • Develop risk management plans for design activities and ensure risks are tracked, mitigated, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, project management, and construction) and external consultants to ensure design consistency and alignment with the project goals.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for design-related matters, ensuring clear and effective communication between stakeholders.
  • Organize and lead design review meetings, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned on design solutions and any potential issues are addressed.
  • Evaluate and continuously improve design processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements, cost savings, and risk reduction.
  • Implement best practices for design workflows, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with project goals.
  • Ensure that the design process leverages the latest technologies and innovations to improve overall design quality and productivity.
  • Maintain comprehensive design documentation, ensuring all design changes, approvals, and assessments are properly recorded.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on the status of design activities, risk management, and quality assurance metrics.
  • Ensure that all design documentation is easily accessible and organized for future reference or audits.
  • Provide technical leadership to the design assurance team, mentoring and guiding them in best practices for design quality management.
  • Take functional responsibility for the recruitment, competence and management of Design Assurance resources assigned to the program by the Delivery Partner.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and development plans for team members, ensuring continuous growth and improvement in design assurance practices.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the design assurance team and across the wider project teams.
  • Act as the liaison between the client, regulatory authorities, and internal project teams regarding design approvals and compliance issues.
  • Ensure that all design deliverables are submitted in a timely manner to meet client and regulatory approval requirements.
  • Address and resolve any client or regulatory concerns related to design quality or compliance.
  • Ensure that design solutions incorporate sustainable practices and meet environmental regulations.
  • Promote the use of energy-efficient and eco-friendly design solutions, where possible, aligning with the project’s sustainability objectives.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related design/technical field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, Chartered Engineer, etc.) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in design assurance, quality management, or related technical roles, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Proven experience in overseeing design quality for large-scale infrastructure projects, ideally in the airport or transportation sectors.
  • Strong background in risk management, design review processes, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, safety regulations).
  • Expert knowledge of design principles, construction methods, and regulatory standards (local, national, and international).
  • Proficiency in design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, MS Project) and experience with project management systems
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional designation.
  • Certification in quality management or design assurance (e.g., Six Sigma, Quality Management Systems) would be an asset.
  • In-depth experience with design and construction in the airport sector or similar infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices and energy-efficient solutions would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience with advanced design technologies within the Project Management Information System ( PMIS) including BIM, GIS, 3D modelling, and virtual design tools.
  • Familiarity with digital construction tools and software would be a significant advantage.
