Department Manager– Transportation Engineering

Our client, a multi-discipline firm which offers engineering services in Peterborough and across Ontario is seeking a Department Manager, Transportation Engineering. The manager must have experience in transportation projects as well as the desire to lead and mentor a transportation team.
Responsibilities include :
- Communication with the President and Senior Management Team in the development of policies, strategic planning, and execution of corporate initiatives.
- Preparation and management of the annual department budget and staff needs.
- Preparation and / or coordination of winning proposals for transportation services.
- Participation in the hiring process including promotion and recruiting.
- Provide direction, training, performance management, professional development, and mentorship to the transportation engineering team.
- Provide lead technical support to the team for the assessment and design of highways including related technical reporting, drawings, and specifications.
- Provide direction to engineers and designers to support, maintain, and improve team capabilities and technical competence, and maintaining high quality of work.
- Champion the implementation of Health & Safety policies and practices within the
- Transportation Engineering team for both in office and field work.
- Manage, maintain, and monitor key external client relationships to ensure we understand client needs and expectations.
- Manage and coordinate as necessary, interdepartmental relationships and work (ongoing and prospective work).
- Keep up to date with relevant and applicable local, provincial, and federal government regulations as they apply to the transportation group.
- Contribute as a Senior Engineer / Project Manager on transportation department project
Requirements are :
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with 10+years of related Transportation experience, including supervisory / management experience.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario or eligible to be licensed within six (6) months of employment.
- Preference for design experience with MTO and experience qualifying for RAQS Highway Engineering Categories.
- Committed to quality improvement and clients core values and experienced in the development and management of staff and project teams.
- Strong inter-personal relationship skills with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other employees, government officials, agencies, and contractors.
- Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Ontario G class driver’s license.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain clients and viewed in the market as an expert in the transportation field.
