Job summary

Long View Systems in Calgary is seeking a Database Infrastructure Consultant to manage and optimize enterprise database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments. You will ensure availability, performance, security, and recoverability while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional service and ongoing support.

Candidates bring 5+ years of enterprise database experience, strong SQL and Oracle skills, and a customer-focused mindset in a dynamic IT services

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience managing database infrastructure in an enterprise environment.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiar with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and Windows/Linux/Unix.
• Strong client-facing service mindset and collaboration skills.
• ITIL Foundations Certification (nice to have)

Responsibilities

• Provision, administer, monitor, and optimize enterprise database platforms across client environments.
• Provide operational support for database infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability.
• Lead onboarding of new clients, including database architecture review, configuration, and implementation.
• Perform health checks, best-practice assessments, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis of database issues.
• Proactively identify opportunities for service improvement and provide recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
• Act as a trusted technical resource for database monitoring, maintenance, incident resolution, and ongoing support.
• Manage and prioritize team ticket queues, ensuring SLA compliance, quality updates, and timely resolution.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and clients to troubleshoot complex issues and implement effective solutions.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and infrastructure records.
• Support database lifecycle activities, including capacity planning, installations, patching, upgrades, migrations, and configuration management across physical, virtual, IaaS, and PaaS environments.
• Contribute to security, change management, and operational best practices to protect and enhance client environments.
• Participate in client meetings, team initiatives, and an on-call rotation while providing support for broader infrastructure projects as required.

We are looking for an adaptable and engaging Database Infrastructure Consultant for our Calgary branch! In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments. You will help ensure the availability, performance, security, and recoverability of critical database systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional service and support.

Working across a diverse technology stack that includes SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, cloud-native database services, and more, you'll tackle complex technical challenges and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Through your expertise, proactive approach, and commitment to best practices, you'll play a key role in helping clients maximize the value, reliability, and scalability of their database environments.

A Day in the Life:

What You Bring:

• 5+ years’ experience managing Database infrastructure in an enterprise environment

• Intermediate understanding of Database technologies with a willingness to grow and learn:

  • Microsoft SQL

  • Oracle RAC

  • Oracle Dataguard

  • SQL PaaS

• PostgreSQL, NoSQL, MongoDB, CosmosDB, MySQL

• Experience working with the following cloud and server platforms:

  • Windows, Linux & Unix

  • Backup & Recovery technologies: Veeam, Cohesity

• Intermediate working knowledge of Database best practices, tuning, standards, recovery

• Passion for creating and delivering an exceptional client experience

Expected Base Salary Range. Plus additional variable incentives.
