Job summary

Avenir Energy is seeking a detail-oriented Billing Analyst to join our Billing & Payments team on a temporary basis in Calgary, AB. You will support billing operations, payment processing, reconciliations, and drive process improvements across the Order-to-Cash function.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and communication skills, experience with ERP systems and Excel, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with scope for automation and reporting enhancements.

Qualifications

• Experience in billing, payments, accounts receivable, finance operations, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high accuracy.
• Experience with ERP systems, billing platforms, or payment transactions.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills; Power BI or other reporting tools is an asset.
• Excellent verbal and written communication across departments.
• Adaptable to evolving priorities, processes, and systems.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Continuous improvement mindset and willingness to identify inefficiencies.
• Experience supporting reconciliations or financial controls is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Billing Operations & Customer Support: Support accurate and timely customer billing across channels.
• Manage accounts with unique billing requirements and supporting documentation.
• Investigate and resolve billing issues affecting invoices or accounts.
• Respond to inquiries from customers, branches, and internal stakeholders.
• Support dispute resolution and customer account maintenance activities.
• Payment Processing & Cash Application: Process daily payment files and post transactions in ERP.
• Apply customer payments and complete manual allocations as required.
• Investigate unapplied or misapplied payments and coordinate resolution.
• Assist with cheque processing, deposits, and payment administration tasks.
• Process Improvement & Systems Support: Identify opportunities to streamline billing workflows.
• Use reporting metrics to identify gaps and drive improvements.
• Develop and enhance reporting tools, dashboards, and KPIs.
• Participate in system enhancements, testing, and process improvements.
• Maintain process documentation and support continuous improvement.
• Financial Controls & Team Support: Support reconciliations, research, and issue resolution.
• Investigate billing/payment discrepancies with supporting docs.
• Assist with month-end, audit requests, and financial controls.
• Cross-train across Billing & Payments for coverage and flexibility.
• Support department priorities and special projects as needed.
