Position Overview: We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Data Communications Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience configuring data networking equipment, using networking and broadband protocols, and troubleshooting complex network issues. The role involves overseeing a lab and testing new broadband data communication products.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setup and maintain a broadband DOCSIS and optical PON communications lab, including configuring and operating cable modem termination systems (CMTS), optical line terminals (OLT), routers, switches, and network protocol servers (DHCP, TFTP, TOD).
  • Oversee verification & validation testing for the communications interfaces of broadband uninterruptible power supply (UPS) products, including DOCSIS, PON, Ethernet, SPI, and serial data interfaces.
  • Setup and manage CMTS operation, including creating and editing DOCSIS configuration files using TLV scripting notation for cable modem management.
  • Troubleshoot basic RF and optical problems using tools such as a DSAM (digital services activation meter), spectrum analyzer, and optical power meter.
  • Use SNMP management software to test products and to develop and edit MIB files using ASN.1 scripting notation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in data networking.
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols (Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, SNMP) with the ability to troubleshoot complex networking issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with DOCSIS-based broadband cable modems and RF diagnostics is a plus.
  • Technical support experience including remote or onsite troubleshooting is desired.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving complex technical issues.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, reliable products.
