Qualifications

Scope of the Position:

The Data & Communications Specialist is responsible for providing application expertise and developing the data and communications business for Gescan by proactively prospecting new customers and increasing opportunities with current customers. Interfaces directly with specifiers, engineers, and customers at the early stages of projects to obtain customer commitment prior to completing quoting process. Negotiates various Data & Communication projects with customers. Heavily involved with and acts as a key contact for the sales department and projects group. This position requires specific market industry knowledge and ability to read engineering reports to make pricing decisions and offer product solutions.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Contacting current customers and identifying new products and potential up-selling.
  • Responding to and processing incoming calls and orders.
  • Opening new accounts.
  • Developing customer base and sales leads by making cold and warm calls.
  • Entering orders into system.
  • Maintaining knowledge base on current products and learning about new products.
  • Identify product(s) the customer requires that may not be stocked by the Company and sourcing the product(s).
  • Providing pricing quotations, follow-up on quotes and Technical support on products.
  • Purchasing for direct orders and do counter Sales.
  • Shipping & Receiving - daily verify orders and fill-in if the shipper/receiver is absent.
  • Responsible for Credits/Debits, Returns and Troubleshooting freight problems, expediting, etc.
  • Responding to inquiries and closing orders.
  • Other duties as required.

Education & Training:

  • BICSI RCDD designation an asset.
  • Data Centre Design credential an asset.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • University/College Diploma preferred, Technical Diploma an asset.
  • Vendor Certified Training on Data and Communications products an asset.
  • Requires a high working level of technical/product knowledge of Data and Communications products.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Experience:

  • 5 years related experience required.
  • Excellent knowledge of data and communications products and applications.

Actual compensation commensurate with the candidate’s experience, education, internal parity, role complexity, role level, and other relevant factors. The advertised salary range relates to British Columbia and is provided in accordance with the BC Pay Transparency Act. We recognize however that salaries are often driven by market forces in the local area where a candidate is based and accordingly the salary range may not apply outside of British Columbia.
