AtkinsRéalis seeks an experienced Dam Safety Expert to lead dam safety reviews nationwide in Canada, guiding risk-based decisions and regulatory compliance. You’ll coordinate multidisciplinary teams with dam owners, regulators, and Indigenous communities to improve safety and capital planning.
You bring 15+ years in dam engineering, a P.Eng. or eligibility, and deep CDA guideline knowledge, delivering technically solid reports and strategic client support.
We are seeking an experienced Dam Safety Expert to join our team and provide technical leadership in the assessment, management, and long-term safety of dam infrastructure across Canada. In this role, you will lead Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs), advise clients on regulatory compliance and risk management, and support the planning and delivery of dam safety improvements. Working with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulators, you will apply your expertise in dam engineering and safety governance while navigating the unique regulatory and jurisdictional requirements that vary across Canadian provinces and territories. This is an opportunity to play a key role in protecting critical infrastructure and shaping dam safety practices nationwide.
Lead and coordinate Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs) for dams and hydraulic structures across Canada in accordance with CDA guidelines and regulatory requirements. Provide expert technical guidance on dam safety, risk assessment, surveillance, operations, maintenance, and rehabilitation. Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and engage with dam owners, regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders. Ensure compliance with applicable provincial, territorial, and federal dam safety regulations, recognizing regional differences in review frequencies, reporting requirements, classifications, and emergency preparedness expectations. Identify, assess, and communicate dam safety risks and develop recommendations for risk mitigation and capital investment planning. Review and approve technical reports, dam safety assessments, and regulatory submissions. Support business development, client management, and the growth of dam safety services.
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Water Resources Engineering; advanced degree considered an asset. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and eligibility for registration across multiple Canadian jurisdictions. Minimum 15 years of experience in dam engineering and dam safety. Demonstrated experience leading Dam Safety Reviews and managing multidisciplinary teams. Experience working with hydroelectric, water resource, mining, or other dam-owning organizations. Strong knowledge of CDA Dam Safety Guidelines, dam safety risk management practices, and Canadian regulatory frameworks. Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement, and technical report writing skills.

Expected compensation for this role is between $117,200 - $161,200 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
