Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a structural engineer to join a hydroelectric team working on dams, spillways and powerhouses. You will contribute to analysis, design and rehabilitation of structures across dam, hydraulic, building and bridge projects in hydroelectric contexts, in Canada and potentially internationally.

The role requires a civil engineering degree with 5–10 years’ relevant experience, professional registration or eligibility in Canada, English fluency and a hybrid work culture.

• Master’s degree in civil engineering is an asset.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written); bilingualism is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Structural design of hydraulic structures, hydroelectric plants and related structures (concrete and steel).
• Rehabilitation of hydraulic works, hydroelectric plants and related structures.
• Multidisciplinary coordination; lead design meetings with client.
• Produce preliminary and detailed engineering and verify design calculations.
• Prepare and review technical deliverables: reports, drawings and specifications.
• Follow up the works during construction.

Job Description Overview

AtkinsRéalis has a large experienced hydroelectric team (over 100 employees), mainly composed of engineers and technicians, located in Montreal and Vancouver. The areas of activity of this team include geotechnics and geology, civil engineering and structure, hydrology and hydraulics, mechanics and electricity. Our hydroelectric team covers the Canadian market, but sometimes also the international market. It is therefore possible that you will be asked to participate in projects both in Canada and internationally.

You will take charge of technical mandates specific to hydroelectric structures including dams, spillways, and powerhouses. AtkinsRéalis is looking for a structural engineer to join a team dedicated to engineering works mainly targeting hydroelectric projects and who will be able to use his or her experience and expertise to support the client in decision‑making or to clarify their needs. In this role, you will work within the engineering team for the analysis, design and rehabilitation of structures as part of various dam, hydraulic works, building and bridge projects in the field of hydroelectricity.

Responsibilities

• Structural design of hydraulic structures, hydroelectric power plants and related structures (concrete and steel)
• Rehabilitation of hydraulic works, hydroelectric power plants and related structures
• Multidisciplinary coordination, attending and leading design meetings (internally and with the client)
• Production of preliminary and detailed engineering, and preparation and/or verification of design calculations and associated calculation notes
• Participation and supervision of the production of the main technical deliverables, i.e. design reports, structural drawings and technical specifications for calls for tenders and for construction
• Follow‑up the works during construction

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural profile, Master’s degree in civil engineering, an asset
• Having minimum 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in the design and rehabilitation of water retaining structures, bridges and civil engineering structures
• Being a member of the PEO or being eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Canada
• Fluency in English (spoken and written), bilingualism, an asset
• Knowledge of Ontario Power Generation standards is an asset

Additional Information

Expected compensation for this role is between $100,200 - $137,700 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
