As part of the Cybersecurity team, the Cybersecurity Threat Analyst (IT Specialist I-IV) is responsible for assessing threats to NB Power, maintaining awareness of the attack surface, advising and reporting on threats, and supporting in the development and implementation of proactive defence strategies. This key advisory role within the Cybersecurity team is responsible for improving threat hunting maturity, developing relevant controls, and contributing to internal and external compliance activities.

Key functions include:

  • Identify, investigate, assess, and report on technical threats and vulnerabilities to safeguard critical systems and networks. This includes such things as conducting risk and threat intelligence analysis, constructing and examining various reports, performance assessments, and investigations. Develop dashboards and metrics for cyber threat intelligence operations and quality of service.
  • Develop, test, and deploy technical tools within an active defence framework to detect threats and protect organizational information and systems at risk. Compose tactical, operational, and strategic intelligence mechanics and scenarios, and support the development and operational implementation of cybersecurity measures, utilizing data from various cybersecurity sources to determine the most effective methods for reducing the risk of threats.
  • Develop procedures to improve threat hunting maturity and present recommendations to team management and operations teams.
  • Stay current with emerging and potential industry threats, vulnerabilities, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with internal teams to share threat intelligence to strengthen collective defence.

Our ideal teammate will have :

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Advanced Systems Management, Information Systems Security or Internetworking. Those with a Diploma will require an additional two years of related experience.
  • Certifications in any of the following would be considered an asset: threat hunting, digital forensics, security operations, offensive or defensive security, malware analysis, threat detection and mitigation.
  • One year of experience in threat intelligence analysis with demonstrated experience in at least two of the following.
  • Active and passive defence tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)Attack maps (e.g., MITRE ATT&CK, Cyber Kill Chain)
  • Cybercriminal psychology
  • Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) tools
  • Exploit analysis
  • Exploit developmentOpen-Source Intelligence (OSINT) / Dark Web investigation
  • Penetration testing
  • Reverse engineering / malware analysis
  • Threat hunting
  • Threat management

An equivalent combination of training, certifications and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified. The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Criminal Record Name Check.An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
