Job summary

MEDA Limited is seeking an experienced Cutting Tool Supervisor to oversee the tool crib, manage staff, and ensure the proper assembly, maintenance, and repair of cutting tools used in automotive manufacturing.

You will read blueprints, interpret CMM reports, and maintain tool inventory while driving continuous improvement across shifts. Strong GD&T knowledge and hands‑on machining experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in machining, tool & die, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience with durable and perishable cutting tools in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated machining experience with engine components from aluminum, cast iron, powder metal, and steel.
  • Ability to assemble, troubleshoot, and repair cutting tools and diagnose tooling failures.
  • Strong blueprint reading, GD&T, and tooling specifications knowledge.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven manufacturing environment; shift requirements may vary.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, tool tracking/inventory systems, ERP/MRP systems a plus).
  • Strong hands‑on technical expertise; machining experience across multiple engine component materials.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the cutting tool crib/tool room.
  • Ensure proper assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of cutting tools used in production.
  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate daily activities of hourly tool crib/tooling personnel across shifts.
  • Provide hands‑on technical support for tool assembly, disassembly, and setup.
  • Assist diagnosing tooling failures and determine root cause and corrective action.
  • Identify and differentiate cutting tool types (inserts, end mills, drills, reamers, etc.).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CMM reports, and tooling specs to ensure accuracy and conformance.
  • Monitor cost performance and inventory levels; coordinate with CMS/ EWIE for tooling stock.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate hourly employees on tool handling, assembly, and safety.
  • Collaborate with production to resolve tooling downtime and drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain records of tool inspections, repairs, replacements, and failure analysis.
  • Support RCCA efforts related to tooling performance issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations (e.g., OSHA).

Job description

We are recruiting an experienced Cutting Tool Supervisor to join our team to support our client in the automotive industry.

NOTE:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the cutting tool crib/tool room
  • Ensure the proper assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of durable and perishable cutting tools used in production
  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate daily activities of hourly tool crib/tooling personnel, ensuring adequate staffing and coverage across shifts
  • Provide hands‑on technical support for the assembly, disassembly, and setup of durable and perishable cutting tools
  • Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting tooling failures (e.g., premature wear, breakage, chipping, poor surface finish)
  • Assist to determine root cause and corrective action
  • Identify and differentiate between various types of cutting tools (e.g., inserts, end mills, drills, reamers, taps, boring bars, form tools)
  • Assist machining departments to highlight problematic equipment that could be the root cause for tooling failures
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CMM reports and tooling specifications to ensure proper tool assembly, dimensional accuracy, and conformance to standards
  • Monitor cost performance within the tool crib and maintain inventory levels; work with the Tooling Analyst’s, the CMS (EWIE) to ensure adequate perishable and durable tooling stock
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate hourly employees on proper tool handling, assembly procedures, and safety practices
  • Collaborate with production teams to resolve tooling‑related downtime and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate records of tool inspections, repairs, replacements, and failure analysis
  • Support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) efforts related to tooling performance issues
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable safety regulations (e.g., OSHA)
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in machining, tool & die, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience working with durable and perishable cutting tools in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated machining experience with engine components manufactured from aluminum, cast iron, powder metal, and steel
  • Demonstrated ability to assemble, troubleshoot, and repair cutting tools and diagnose tooling failures
  • Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and tooling specifications
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven manufacturing environment. Shift requirements may vary depending on the need.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, tool tracking/inventory systems, ERP/MRP systems a plus)
  • Strong hands‑on technical expertise
  • Machining experience across multiple engine component material types
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Interpret CMM reports and proven leadership skills to supervise, coach, and develop hourly personnel in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Technical certification ins Machine Tool Technology, Tool & Die, or a related discipline
  • Experience with CNC machining processes and tooling optimization for engine/powertrain components
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience with tool crib management/inventory control systems
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • $35.00 - $40.00/hour (depending on experience)
  • Paid Benefits after 90 days (individual and family) – extended medical, out-of-country coverage, dental etc.
  • Pension eligibility, with employer match, after 1 full year of work (open enrollment every October)
