Job description

Time Commitment: Minimum one hour per week for three months.

Minimum Age: 15

Location(s): Mississauga YMCA Employment and Community Services

Program Description

YMCA Employment Centres offer a variety of services to help youth and adults gain employment. Job seekers can benefit from our free employment programs and resources, attend free workshops, and get one-on-one personalized support from our professional staff.

Major Duties
  1. Creating a welcoming environment for members; maintaining reception area by organizing pamphlets and updating information.
  2. Updating job postings and job fair board.
  3. Answering phones in a friendly and professional manner and organizing faxes.
  4. Confirming and booking appointments and responding to inquiries for specific employment programs.
  5. Conducting tours of the centre and its resources.
  6. Preparing new member files, tracking daily sign-in sheets, and assisting with mail-outs.
  7. Helping with translation or interpretation for members with lower levels of English proficiency.
  8. Virtual duties may include:
    • Recording information as needed.
    • Creating reports, updating paperwork, and maintaining documents.
    • Performing general office clerk duties.
Qualifications
  1. Volunteers 18 years of age or older will need to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening from their local police service before their first day of volunteering and every three years on the anniversary of their first day of volunteering.
  2. Strong communication and organizational skills.
  3. Strong ability to relate with diverse people.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and be sensitive to members’ needs.
  5. Basic knowledge of computer skills and office equipment.
  6. Ability to work and multi-task within a team setting in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Knowledge of a second language is an asset.
