Job Description:

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that Bayside Mission Centre is kept in a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Clean the building in a systematic and thorough manner including floors, walls, window, appliances, fixtures, washrooms, dorm rooms, transitional rooms, dining room, storage rooms, laundry rooms, program area, offices, hallways, entranceways.
  • Ensure that dormitory units are thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis. This will include but not limited to:
    • move all furniture, sweep and mop/vacuum all floors
    • disinfect beds, mattresses and window sills weekly
    • inspect all beds for possible infestations as per policies and procedures
    • sweep/vacuum and mop daily all hallways and foyers
    • replenish all paper products and hygiene products as necessary
    • keep all stairwells clean and clear of storage items
    • keep all walls clean of marks and streaks
    • keep all doors clean and tidy
    • clean and maintain all washroom stalls, floors, sinks, toilets, showers and walls
  • Ensure that transition units are thoroughly cleaned upon discharge of clients. This will include but not limited to:
    • move all furniture, sweep and mop/vacuum all floors
    • disinfect beds, mattresses and window sills
    • thorough clean washroom
  • Ensure all office spaces are thoroughly on a daily basis. This will include but not limited to:
    • Remove all garbage and recycling to appropriate bins
    • Sweep and mop all floors
    • Clean all glass surfaces with glass cleaners
    • Spot check walls and clean
  • Follow through with proper Fire Procedures, Health and Safety, and Security Procedures according to policy.
  • Keep supplies in stock and organized in designated supply/storage area.
  • Collect and remove garbage in the proper procedure
  • Spot wash accessible walls
  • Report any safety issues, deficiencies and concerns to the Maintenance Worker, including but not limited to bedbugs, hazards, malfunctioning fixtures, equipment, etc.
  • Maintain a clear and safe work environment. Comply with safety procedures including use of required safety equipment and identify unsafe practices or conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY :

  • Business Services Manager
  • Reports directly to: Maintenance Supervisor

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Responsible for the wise use of his/her own resources.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work environment is typically in the entire facility and property designated.
  • High amount of standing, walking, physical intervention and use of cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Work with industrial grade chemicals
  • Working with homeless people.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

• Minimum of Grade 12 education.

  • Completion of Non-Violence Crisis Intervention Training or willingness to obtain.
  • Current First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain.
  • Current WHMIS certificate or willingness to obtain.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Prior related experience, including previous experience and familiarity with cleaning and sanitizing supplies, cleaning equipment and procedures.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance procedures.

Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):

  • Ability to lift more than 20 pounds.
  • Ability to work as a team member with other staff, volunteers and clients.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Possess a positive attitude and works well with other team members.
  • To maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and staff of The Salvation Army.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $18.76 with a maximum of $22.51.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
