Job summary

Heritage Park in Calgary seeks an Assistant Curator of Collections to join the Programming and Experience - Curatorial team. You will support collections, exhibits, and research, ensuring accurate historical information and proper care of artifacts.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s asset) with 2+ years in a museum setting. The position offers 35 hours weekly, on-site work, and a comprehensive benefits package, including a pension plan and paid time off.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Museum Studies, Art History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Canadian Studies or related field is required.
  • Master’s degree or further certification considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Document museum collections, including accessioning, de-accessioning, cataloging, donations and other records.
  • Conduct ongoing inventory of artifacts with Curator of Collections.
  • Prepare artifacts for storage or display.
  • Perform preventive conservation and cleaning of exhibit and collection spaces following best practices.
  • Maintain artifact receiving room organization in consultation with the Curator.
  • Assist with exhibit installation and maintenance.
  • Support collection digitization projects (including photography) under the Curator’s guidance.
  • Coordinate volunteers for curatorial projects.
  • Assist with packing and relocation of objects.
  • Manage database and perform cleanup.
  • Perform other duties as required.
