Job summary

Know History in Calgary is seeking a Historical Researcher for a contract position through March 2027. You will perform genealogical and archival research, data processing, and written reporting to support museums, Indigenous communities, and other clients.

The role emphasizes collaboration, confidentiality, and attention to detail, with on-site work in Calgary, full-time hours, and starting pay of CAD 25 per hour plus paid vacation. Local travel is occasionally required.

Qualifications

• Degree in History or Indigenous Studies or equivalent
• Experience with databases for data entry and historical research
• Knowledge of genealogical and historic documents and repositories
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with First Nations, Inuit, Métis history is an asset
• Ability to follow workflows and maintain confidentiality
• English working language; Indigenous language or French is an asset

Responsibilities

• Conduct genealogical and archival file review.
• Provide research support including document management and data processing.
• Digitize archival documents and perform transcription on-site or remotely.
• Conduct genealogical research in databases and repositories.
• Transcribe records and update research databases.
• Assist with project administration and quality assurance.
• Develop and maintain research methodologies.
• Occasionally travel for local projects.
