University of Ottawa is hiring Teaching Assistants for the course Fundamentals of Physics for Engineers (PHY1124) at Main Campus. Three positions are available for the Winter 2027 term, with a total workload of around 130 hours across preparation, student contact, grading and exam proctoring.

Undergraduate students are paid at the lower rate and graduate students at the higher rate; the work is delivered in-class in English on a full/part-time CUPE basis, with rates listed accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Completion of 3 years of University level Physics or equivalent.

Responsabilités

  • Preparation time: up to 24 hours for course material development.
  • Contact with students: up to 16 hours of direct interaction / DGD.
  • Grading and marking: up to 68 hours of grading.
  • Proctoring: final exam proctoring up to 4 hours; additional proctoring as needed.

Requirements and Nature of Work

Requirements (Faculty): Completion of 3 years of University level Physics or equivalent.

  • TA: 130h
  • Marking/Grading: Up to 68 hours of marking and grading.
  • Contact with students: Up to 16 hours of DGD.
  • Preparation: Up to 24 hours of prep time / course material development.
  • Contact with students: Up to 12 hours of office hours, helping students
  • Other Duties: 4 hours of proctoring of a final exam.
  • Please note: the proctoring of a final exam will be assigned by the Faculty of Science.
  • Other Duties: Up to 6 hours of proctoring, course evaluation, preparing demos etc.
  • TA: 65h
  • Marking/Grading: Up to 17 hours of marking and grading.
  • Contact with students: Up to 16 hours of DGD.
  • Preparation: Up to 24 hours of prep time / course material development.
  • Other Duties: 4 hours of proctoring of a final exam.
  • Please note: the proctoring of a final exam will be assigned by the Faculty of Science.
  • Other Duties: Up to 4 hours of proctoring midterms, preparing demos etc.

Please note that some streamlining of duties (for example having all marking and no DGDs) and the accommodation of varying schedules (including trips) might be possible but cannot be guaranteed and based on mutual agreement with the group.
