The University of Ottawa is hiring five Teaching Assistant/ Demonstrator/Lab Monitor positions for PHY2104 - Introduction to Circuits Theory Electronics on the Main Campus during the 2027 Winter Semester. These CUPE roles involve lab support, grading, and student contact, with compensation at two hourly rates depending on status.

Work begins January 1, 2027 and ends April 30, 2027, with a total of 130 hours.

Qualifications

  • B. Sc. in Physics or equivalent.
  • Experience assisting students in laboratory settings preferred.
  • Ability to prepare labs and manage classroom activities.
  • Proctoring and grading responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students during physics labs (48 hours).
  • Grade labs, assignments, tests, and midterms (45 hours).
  • Prepare for labs (18 hours).
  • Help students with problem solving in person (6 hours).
  • Proctor final exam (4 hours).

Requirements and Nature of Work

Requirements (faculty):

B. Sc. in Physics or equivalent.

  • 48 hours: Assisting students during labs.
  • 45 hours: Marking/Grading labs, assignments, tests, midterms.
  • 18 hours: Preparing for labs.
  • 6 hours: Helping students with problem solving (in person at the Help Centre in STEM or office hours).
  • 4 hours. Proctoring final exam SCIXXXX. Assigned by the faculty.
