Job summary

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Temporary full-time Creative Lead to join our Integrated Marketing team in Ottawa. You will oversee the creative direction, manage a team of designers and writers, and ensure the brand identity is consistently represented across channels.

Reporting to the Manager, Creative Studio, you will develop systems to improve performance, collaborate with cross-functional partners, and drive brand expression with clarity and impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
  • 7+ years of graphic design experience with 3+ years within a creative leadership role.
  • In-house design experience essential; agency experience a plus.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creative direction of all design and ensure alignment with business strategies and brand guidelines.
  • Lead and mentor a team of designers and writers to deliver high-quality creative work.
  • Plan and execute creative shoots and manage assets lifecycle.
  • Provide constructive feedback to improve work quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with brand team and cross-functional partners to ensure brand consistency.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in creative brand expression across the organization.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Creative Lead to join our dynamic Integrated Marketing team.

TheIntegrated Marketing team is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive, integrated marketing strategies aimed at building Canadian Blood Services' brand, expanding our donor base, and enhancing donor loyalty.

Reporting to the Manager, Creative Studio, you will be responsible for overseeing the creative direction of all design. You will lead a team of graphic designers and writers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the Canadian Blood Services brand identity is consistently represented across all channels. You will also be instrumental in developing systems and processes to optimize team performance and organizational efficiency. The ideal candidate is a skilled graphic designer, with a strong understanding of brand management and a proven ability to inspire and lead a creative team.

  • Leveraging your excellent skills in design leadership, you will oversee the development of all design to ensure alignment with business strategies and broader Canadian Blood Services goals.
  • Tapping into your leadership background, you will manage, mentor, and inspire a team of designers, writers, and other creative professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Utilizing your skills and project management, you will lead the planning and execution of creative shoots and oversee selection, cataloguing and maintenance of creative assets.
  • You will provide clear and constructive feedback during the creative process, ensuring all work meets the highest standards of quality and creativity.
  • Capitalizing on your experience in relationship management, you will work closely with the brand team, ensuring alignment with brand expectations, guidelines, and feedback.
  • Drawing on your excellent interpersonal skills, you will demonstrate leadership in living the brand and serve as a subject matter expert in creative brand expression, providing guidance to all areas of the organization, external agencies, and partners on the correct application of the brand.
Desired education and skills
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
  • 7+ years of graphic design experience with 3+ years within a creative leadership role.
  • Experience in working within an in-house environment is essential, with agency experience considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and organizational abilities.
  • Confident client interfacing and excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Skilled in analytical and creative problem-solving, handling multiple projects, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Microsoft Suite, and other relevant design and project management tools.
  • Highly developed team leadership and interpersonal skills are required, with a proven ability to build and manage professional relationships.

What you can expect
  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40 % of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our head office location in Ottawa - 1800 Alta Vista Drive, for in-person team meetings when required.
  • Travel requirements - travel will be required for to attend shoots and project commitments.
