YWCA Hamilton seeks a dedicated counsellor to provide individual counselling and group support for women at risk or in conflict with the law, including accompaniment to court and legal advocacy. You will collaborate with corrections and community agencies, perform risk assessments, and help plan safety and release strategies.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed counselling, confidentiality, and strong collaboration with a feminist, anti-racist framework.

Qualifications

• 2 years’ college in social work or human services.
• Enhanced security clearance checks as per Corrections Canada / SOLGEN.
• 3 years’ experience working within scope of services for gendered violence and court support for women in conflict with the law.
• Strong knowledge and experience in group or workshop facilitation.
• Sound knowledge of the Canadian criminal justice system, court processes.
• Experience in trauma-based counselling and education.

Responsabilités

• Provide individual counselling and group facilitation to women who are at risk, have been, or are in conflict with the law and those who are currently incarcerated.
• Accompaniment of women in court (online and in person), legal advocacy and system navigation, release planning, safety planning, harm reduction strategies, referrals to community agencies, conduct case management and risk assessments.
• Works collaboratively with women and gender diverse individuals to support a range of needs including legal support, housing, education, employment and mental health/addictions to establish a plan to independence.
• Support with release planning, safety planning & risk assessment, harm reduction strategies, referrals to community agencies and case management.
• Maintains professional recordkeeping standards in a system for reports and statistics on client interactions.
• Communicates, advocates and collaborates with corrections, probation and parole and community agencies to provide resources and services to clients/residents.
