Job summary

School District No. 5 (Southeast Kootenay) is seeking a Counsellor for K-12 to support three campuses: Kootenay Discovery School, Fernie Secondary School, and Jaffray Elementary/Jr. Secondary School.

This 0.886 FTE temporary position runs from Oct 23, 2026 to Dec 18, 2026 or until the incumbent returns. A Master’s Degree recognized by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch in Counselling or Psychology is required, with relevant K-12 teaching experience and trauma-informed practice background.

Qualifications

• Must have a Master's Degree recognized by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch in Counselling, Psychology in Counselling or Psychology.
• Must have a degree/formal training and/or teaching experience at the K-12 level.
• Must have training and/or experience in trauma informed practice.

Salary Range: The starting annual salary for this teaching position ranges from $62,367 to $105,599, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.

Terms and conditions pursuant to the Collective Agreement between the Cranbrook and Fernie Teachers' Association and School District No. 5 (Southeast Kootenay).

Job Summary

0.886 FTE temporary contract, starting October 23, 2026 or upon completion of the posting process to December 18, 2026, or return of the incumbent.

This is a District position, and 0.30 FTE of this position will support Kootenay Discovery School, 0.286 FTE will support Fernie Secondary School and 0.30 FTE will support Jaffray Elementary/Jr. Secondary School. Please note that all work will be on site.

Please note: Continuing teachers will need to vacate their continuing assignment in order to accept a temporary assignment, unless the FTE is greater in the temporary job posting.
