Role: Counsellor

Our client is a respected private addiction treatment facility renowned for its supportive, compassionate and holistic approach to helping individuals overcome addiction and reclaim their lives. Nestled in the village of Leipzig, the facility offers a serene setting helping foster a nurturing space within a caring community.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Counsellor you will be an integral part of the counselling team in creating an environment that fosters client safety, empowerment and choice. In this position, you will facilitate and lead structured group sessions with a mission to support clients on their unique path to recovery. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to a mission-driven program that supports clients in building a sustainable recovery. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Counsellor, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:

Group Facilitation & Program Delivery

  1. Facilitate large group sessions of 10-16 clients twice a week, focusing on recovery-based learning.
  2. Deliver weekend programming including SMART Recovery, CODA and recreational exercises.
  3. Provide day-to-day support to clients as needed, including ensuring clients are comfortable and communicating on a regular basis.
  4. Deliver the established evidence-based recovery program and adhere to its core concepts.
  5. Provide coverage for core recovery program during holidays and sick days.

Documentation & Communication

  1. Using ShareVision database, complete detailed contact notes for each group participant after each group session.
  2. Build and maintain professional, respectful relationships with clients, providing guidance and compassion while maintaining health boundaries.
  3. Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff by participating in regular team meetings and client meetings to ensure program success and cohesive team operations.
  4. Work with other counsellors, support staff and the leadership team, ensuring a holistic approach to client care and program delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS

As a Counsellor, you will bring:

  1. Degree or diploma in addiction, social work, human services related field and/or combination of education and work-related experience.
  2. 5-10 years of related experience in community settings providing programs for individuals with mental health issues and substance use disorders.
  3. Lived experience of addiction, recovery and involvement in a program for addictions or mental health issues preferred.
  4. Ability to effectively follow and deliver an established evidence-based curriculum while adapting delivery to meet diverse learning styles and client needs.
  5. Flexible schedule with the willingness to work most Saturdays and provide coverage as needed.
  6. Comfortable working in a very rural setting where seasonal changes drastically affect driving conditions.
  7. Critical thinking skills and capacity to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  8. Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and trust with clients, building strong therapeutic alliances.
  9. Demonstrated knowledge of substance misuse, relapse prevention and harm prevention.
  10. Empathy and compassion for individuals facing addiction challenges.
