Job summary

Turner & Townsend in Canada is seeking an experienced Cost Consultant to contribute to a diverse portfolio across public sector projects. You will develop and manage mechanical and electrical cost estimates from concept through to construction and closeout.

Ideal candidates have 4–7 years of post-graduate experience in cost estimating, cost planning, or quantity surveying, with strong analytical and stakeholder skills and a focus on value for money.

Qualifications

  • 4-7 years of post-graduate experience in cost estimating, planning, or quantity surveying.
  • Focus on mechanical and electrical building systems.
  • Experience delivering cost management services on public sector projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, procurement strategies, and market pricing.
  • Experience preparing estimates across all project phases from concept to construction.
  • Membership or progress toward CIQS, RICS, AACE is an asset.
  • Proficiency with CostX or similar estimating platforms.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Who are you?

You are an experienced Cost Consultant with 4-7 years of post-graduate experience in cost planning, estimating, and cost management. You are looking to further develop your career within a collaborative and growing team, contributing to a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors.

Job Description:

  • Develop and manage mechanical and electrical cost estimates for public sector projects from concept design through procurement, construction, and project closeout.
  • Prepare detailed cost plans, estimates, and benchmarking analyses to support project decision‑making and budget validation.
  • Analyze tender submissions and procurement outcomes to ensure competitiveness, compliance, and value for money.
  • Participate in value engineering and cost optimization exercises, identifying cost-effective solutions while maintaining project.
  • Support project teams in managing cost risks, change management, forecasting, and budget control to ensure client objectives are achieved.
  • Contribute to client presentations, cost reports, and stakeholder meetings.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • 4-7 years of experience in cost estimating, cost planning, or quantity surveying, with a focus on mechanical and electrical building systems.
  • Experience delivering cost management services on public sector projects such as healthcare, education, government, transit, municipal, or institutional facilities.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical construction methods, systems, procurement strategies, and market pricing.
  • Experience preparing estimates across all project phases, from conceptual design through construction.
  • Membership or progress toward membership with relevant professional organizations such as CIQS, RICS, AACE, or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with cost estimating software such as CostX or similar estimating platforms.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

The base salary for the full-time Cost Consultant role is CAD $75,000 - $100,000.Ranges are determined by role and level and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range is a reflection of base salary only, not of a total compensation package. Please note Turner & Townsend reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on candidate’s experience and qualifications.
