St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton is seeking a Corporate Operations Supervisor to provide vital administrative support after hours. This role is crucial for managing patient flow, staffing, and addressing clinical issues. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, notable leadership ability, and experience in clinical and administrative settings.
POSITION SUMMARY
As the Corporate Operations Supervisor, you are required to provide on-site administrative support as an extension of Manager and Directors coverage after hours, alongside providing support to the Charge Nurses/Team Leads with any issues related to clinical, patient flow, staffing, patient relations, public relations and risk management in collaboration with the Operational Command Centre (NRT, Bed Allocation, and the COS). Utilizing integration of this role into daily operations and after hours provides this pivotal role success in ensuring the safe operations of the facility continue seamlessly after hours.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
•Contributes to the corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance SJHH’s mission, vision and values.
•Performs duties in a manner that demonstrates the employee’s commitment to developing a culture of patient and staff safety through accountability, reliability, trust and team work.
•Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.
•Works collaboratively with CN/TL/NRT to support staffing structure to support the staffing structures after hours, weekends and statutory holidays. Updates Managers/Directors in a timely fashion.
•Works collaboratively with Charge Nurses/Team Leads to assist in employee relations issues, promoting a teamwork environment where staff can practice professionally and safely to ensure quality care is delivered at all times
•In collaboration with the Manager, contributes to the performance management process as relevant to role responsibilities.
•Provides coaching and feedback to staff as required
•Assists in the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives which are in alignment with established SJHH strategic plan.
•Supports staff to ensure that continuous quality improvement initiatives are incorporated into day-to-day activities.
•Works closely with Directors and Managers on issues relating to risk, quality and utilization of resources.
•Provides leadership related to quality initiatives ensuring that staff are supported after hours.
•Completes reports related to patient flow, staffing, patient incidents and administrative issues as part of the assurance of quality and efficient care.
•Contributes to corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance SJHH's mission, values and goals, and in alignment with SJHH strategic plan, specifically aligned with 3 priorities: Culture, Staffing, and Capacity
•Represents administration internally on SJHH committees, as required, and represents SJHH with contact with community partners
•Ensures the smooth flow of in-patients, out-patients and emergency patients throughout the Hospital.
•Actively participates in corporate initiatives to ensure efficient and effective service for patients and families
•Follows up on all emergency code calls and provides follow up as required
•Addresses complaints reported by patients and families; Guiding staff, patients, and family through the process, resolving time sensitive issues, and facilitating follow-up through patient relations and manager of unit. Provides written reports for the appropriate Manager and /or Director.
•Similar to NRT Charlton and West 5th, would be mirroring the Charlton CN system and responsibilities to West 5th, the CN would take on a stronger leadership with assistance from COS when needed and for advisement
•Identifies problems related to the physical plant and contacts the appropriate service to handle the problem.
•Evaluates the staffing needs in response to changes within the units and assist in arranging that staff.
•Interprets and enforces Hospital and Department policies as necessary.
•Makes efforts to be aware of incidents and unusual occurrences in the Hospital and manages these situations within the role and in collaboration with Program Directors and Managers.
•Provides regular reports of the activity within the Hospital and affecting the Hospital to the Executive and Management Teams.
•Reports staff illness and injuries and supports staff to obtain care as necessary. Completes appropriate reports for Occupational Health Services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
•Bachelor's Degree program in Nursing or other health related discipline
•Master’s Degree in a related health discipline would be an asset
•Member in good standing with the Regulated Health Professional College and Provincial Professional Association required
•Must have 3-5 years of clinical and administrative experience
•Ability to think critically to respond to a rapidly changing environment
•Ability to assess risk, and effectively utilize resources to support patient acuity while considering the global needs of the organization
•Ability to be self-directed and thrive in a dynamic environment
•Role model’s composure; Able to remain calm under pressure
•Demonstrates positive, collaborative working relationships with interdisciplinary health care teams
•Excellent customer service skills
•Ability to listen, engage, collaborate, negotiate, facilitate and entertain creative solutions in order to enhance patient flow organizationally and mobilize teams to achieve throughput
•Actively participates in and demonstrates support for continuous quality improvement initiatives
•Active knowledge of bed allocation, patient flow
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Positive work and attendance performance essential
•Availability for all shifts including days, nights and weekends
