Job description

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Coordinator, Finance is primarily responsible for processing accounts payable for the organization in addition to account analysis, account reconciliations, internal control processes and various month end close duties.

Accounting

Process invoices, cheque requisitions, wire and bank transfers, research grant payments, expense claims and reports, credit card payments to various subledgers and the general ledger; ensure proper approved budget/forecast coding and approvals to all items processed to the annual approved budget/forecast and purchasing policies.

Verifying, coding, analyzing, and general review of invoices; reconcile vendor statements.

Prepare and reconcile all payment runs/processes.

Audit expense reports for proper documentation and company policy adherence

Review general ledger, accounts payable ledger, and vendor aging report.

Reconcile and process all corporate credit card and related expenses.

Process GL account entries and adjustments as required.

Manage processing of revenue daily deposit sheets and monthly GL to Raiser’s Edge reconciliation.

Support the Finance team with month end duties, including preparation and input of journal entries, revenue and cost analysis and various reconciliations as required.

Responsible for process improvements and internal control for all areas of financial responsibility.

Answer all correspondence, internal and external communications, and inquiries in area of responsibility.

Assist with annual audit, government compliance requirements and external and internal reporting as required.

Administrative Support

Attend events on behalf of ALS Canada as an ambassador as required.

Provide support as a backup during employee absences supporting various tasks and team members as required.

Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Completion of post-secondary degree/ diploma or equivalent relevant work experience.

2 years of working experience in a related area with previous experience in accounting and/or finance field.

Recent CPA graduate or enrollment in CPA qualification program working toward certification.

Experience with computer accounting systems and relevant software applications, with an ability and willingness to learn new computing applications.

Strong proficiency in MS Office.

Exceptional organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent time management with the ability to take initiative and respond to directed tasks.

Ability to maintain accurate, timely and complete documentation and electronic records for each event/program.

Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.

Ability to be flexible, prioritizing tasks based on organizational need.

Ability to build successful working relationships with internal and external partners.

A keen interest in the organization’s mission and mandate and desire to help make a difference to people and families living with ALS. Commitment to ALS Canada’s core values: accountability, collaboration, compassion, dynamic, integrity, and respect and modelling them to others.

Previous experience and knowledge of CRM systems and databases and cloud based financial reporting software is an asset.
