The Communications Coordinator is responsible for all communications strategy, and tactics to support initiatives throughout the organization. Working with the Extended Leadership Team (XLT), the incumbent champions the CMHA Thames Valley brand, employs a collaborative approach to communications planning, and plays a key role in protecting the organization’s reputation through a proactive approach to media relations, issues, and crisis and reputation management. The incumbent contributes towards coordinating communication across internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • What you'll be making-$31.76 to $39.01per hour
    • The above are initial rates; with grid increases as per policy
    • Internal staff members will be placed on the appropriate grid based on their current rate of pay, up to Level 8 of the grid
  • When you'll work- 48hours over two-week period; Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
  • What your benefits will be –After a 90-day waiting period, will be enrolled in extended healthcare benefits
  • Your pension plan– Immediately enrolled in Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

HOW YOU WILLBE MAKINGA DIFFERENCE:

Communications:

  • Coordinate the development and execution of a communication plan that supports the CMHA Thames Valley strategy
  • Refine core messaging to ensure organizational consistency in all aspects of communication
  • Facilitate and support both proactive and reactive media requests
  • Act as media spokesperson when designated by CEO
  • Provide communication support to the SLT and ELT on a variety of business issues
  • Work collaboratively to ensure organization’s fund development strategy is effective
  • Lead and coordinate the compilation of high-quality communication material for the CEO, Board of Directors and key stakeholders by collecting submissions from the Leadership Team and editing and designing cohesive, consistent, and professional documents that may include annual reports, regular newsletters (staff and community), brochures
  • Assist with new initiatives including grant proposals
  • Create rich and substantive story content for the organization’s website and associated web and social media channels and update all on a regular and timely basis
  • Monitor communications-related analytics; measure and present results of all communication efforts
  • Contribute to the organization’s effectiveness by offering information and opinion as an ad hoc member of XLT

Employee Engagement:

  • Develop internal communications to encourage employee participation and build a sense of community with CMHA Thames Valley
  • Develop story content that celebrates the work done by CMHA Thames Valley employees
  • Assist Managers and Directors with specific program area team communications, as needed
  • Develop presentations and change management communications plans, as needed

Administrative / Other:

  • Manage the print production of a variety of internal and external materials, as well as the design and content of informational brochures, letterheads (for specialized sites), banners, and fundraising materials
  • Ensure the consistent use of CMHA brand guidelines across the organization and with third-parties
  • Develop communications policies and operational procedures and guidelines as needed
  • Contribute to a positive team environment for all program areas
  • Contribute to the development of the annual report
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of the Weekly Internal Newsletter
  • Schedule, review, create and generate reports on social media platforms
  • Ability to participate in pre-set on call support for Communications
  • Performs other duties / projects, as required

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

We require the following qualifications:

  • University degree or post-graduate diploma in Communications and Public Relations, or undergraduate degree in English or equivalent (Primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process, i.e. an original degree/diploma/certificate or official transcript; for ongoing education, an unofficial transcript will be accepted)
  • Valid Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle with adequate insurance to meet job requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly
  • Clear, current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

We prefer the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of proven experience in the field of communications planning and professional writing; ideally having experience working in a not-for-profit or community organization in healthcare with a focus on mental health and addiction
  • Previous experience in social media and web development
  • Previous experience in issue management and media relations
  • Previous experience coordinating and managing supplier relationships (ie. printers, agency or web design firms)
  • Demonstrated ability in professional communications and public relations writing
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically
  • A strong work ethic and an ability to complete work under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills and the ability to work in a respectful, cooperative team environment
  • An ability to be persuasive, diplomatic, and tactful in high pressure situations, and be an ambassador for the organization
  • An ability to leverage strategies and tailor messages to various audiences
  • An ability to work independently
  • An ability to establish professional relationships and coordinate activities with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficient with a variety of software platforms including Microsoft Office, Mac and mobile platforms
