Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support daily food preparation and safe, sanitary kitchen operations in a fast-paced environment. The role entails handling a variety of cooking tasks, assisting with buffet service, and maintaining clean work areas.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year in kitchen or hospitality settings, holds a Food Handler Certificate, and can work well in a self-directed team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a kitchen or hospitality environment.
  • Valid Food Handler Certificate or provincial equivalent.
  • Ability to operate cooking equipment and complete all cooking tasks.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience in basic food preparation.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver food from pantry to service buffet chafing dishes.
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items.
  • Help measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Bake, roast, broil and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods under guidance.
  • Carve meat, portion food on serving plates, and add gravies, sauces and garnishes to fill orders as directed.
  • Wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables and fruits.
  • Butcher chicken, fish and shellfish as directed.
  • Maintain work area and equipment. Follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas.

Job description

How you will make an impact: You will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and cooking of various food items while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards in the preparation and kitchen areas.

This is a three-day-per-week position, with regular shifts scheduled from Tuesday through Thursday each week.

Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will:

About you:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a kitchen or hospitality environment
  • Experience supporting food service operations, including restocking hot buffet stations, running food, bussing tables, and providing general service support
  • You must have a valid Food Handler Certificate or provincial equivalent
  • Ability to operate cooking equipment and complete all other cooking tasks
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience in basic food preparation
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
