Job summary

COMPASS GROUP CANADA is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items while upholding food safety standards in a busy kitchen in Toronto. The role supports buffet service operations and requires at least 1 year of kitchen or hospitality experience, a valid Food Handler Certificate, and strong communication skills.

This is a full-time, on-site position in the Greater Toronto Area with standard compensation practices.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience in a kitchen or hospitality environment
  • Experience supporting food service operations, including restocking hot buffet stations, running food, bussing tables, and providing general service support
  • Valid Food Handler Certificate or provincial equivalent
  • Ability to operate cooking equipment and complete cooking tasks
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience in basic food preparation
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position

Responsibilities

  • Deliver food from pantry to service buffet chafing dishes
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items
  • Help measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Bake, roast, broil and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods under guidance
  • Carve meat, portion food on serving plates, and add gravies, sauces and garnishes to fill orders as directed
  • Wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables and fruits
  • Butcher chicken, fish and shellfish as directed
  • Maintain work area and equipment; follow sanitation and safety principles in handling food and equipment
  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas

Job description

How you will make an impact:

You will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and cooking of various food items while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards in the preparation and kitchen areas. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will:

About you:
