Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking a Cook to join our dedicated kitchen team in Scarborough, Ontario. You will prepare meals according to recipes, manage diets, and help maintain high-quality food service for residents.

We value safety with required Safe Food Handling/Smart Serve certificates and a collaborative, growth-oriented culture. This role supports residents with dignity and personalized service in a caring environment.

Qualifications

• Valid Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates are required.
• Experience cooking in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality settings.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
• Willingness to pass Vulnerable Sector Check/Criminal Record Check.
• Red Seal certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
• Prepare meals and snacks according to production sheets and recipes.
• Provide for prescribed diets and proper portion control.
• Monitor quality of food supplies and advise on corrective action.
• In supervisor's absence, assist in department operations and purchasing.
• Assist in orientation and training of new team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
• Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
• Performing other duties as assigned

Must haves:

• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
• Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit
• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province

Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset:

• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
