Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Mississauga is seeking a casual Cook to join our team. You will prepare meals and snacks, follow production sheets and recipes, and support residents with meals that meet their dietary needs.

You will work with a dedicated team in a welcoming environment, ensure food safety, and assist with training of new staff as needed.

We offer a competitive pay rate of $21.17 per hour, retirement benefits, RRSP with employer match, SOAR, and opportunities for ongoing learning.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 minimum education required.
• Valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate.
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada; willingness to obtain a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets and recipes.
• Providing for prescribed diets at appropriate temperatures and portions.
• Monitoring quality of food supplies and advising on corrective action.
• Assuming departmental operations in the absence of the team leader; managing changes and purchases.
• Assisting in orientation and training of new team members.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
• Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
• Performing other duties as assigned

Must haves:

• Grade 12 minimum education required
• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
• Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit
• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province

Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset:

• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
