Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking a Cook at Oakwood Commons Community in Brantford, ON. The role involves preparing meals and snacks, following production sheets, and accommodating prescribed diets to ensure residents receive nourishing, properly portioned meals.

The position offers early shifts with a rotating weekend schedule and competitive compensation under the collective agreement, along with benefits and opportunities for growth within a respected senior living provider.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate.
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit.
  • Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check for the province.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and menu documents.
  • Providing for prescribed diets at appropriate temperatures and portions.
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies and advising on corrective action.
  • In the absence of the team leader, manage departmental operations, requisitions and purchasing.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new team members.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Rate of Pay: $25.30 (as per collective agreement)

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:
  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Must haves:
  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
  • You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit
  • You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province
Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset:
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
