Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Barrie, Ontario, is hiring a Cook to prepare meals per menus and production sheets, while ensuring food safety and portion control for residents. You will support daily kitchen operations and training of new staff in a collaborative care environment.

Requires Grade 12, Safe Food Handling/Smart Serve certificates, and prior cooking experience in care facilities or hospitality. Eligible to work in Canada and able to pass background checks.

Qualifications

  • Must have Grade 12 or equivalent education.
  • Valid Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates.
  • Experience cooking in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality settings.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada or valid work permit.
  • Must pass Vulnerable Sector Check/Criminal Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Prepare meals and snacks according to production sheets and recipes.
  • Ensure prescribed diets are prepared at correct temperatures and portions.
  • Monitor food quality, report issues and suggest corrective actions.
  • In absence of team leader, manage departmental operations and ordering.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:
  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Must haves:
  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
  • You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit
  • You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province
Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset:
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
