Job summary

Yee Hong is seeking a Cook II for casual part-time shifts to prepare and cook meals for residents in a not-for-profit geriatric care setting. You will follow established menus, ensure quality, and maintain clean, safe kitchens across production areas and refrigeration zones.

The role requires a Chef Training Diploma (or equivalent), a valid Food Handler Safety Certificate, and at least 3 years’ institutional cooking experience. English communication is required and knowledge of Chinese is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Chef Training diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Food Handler Safety Certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years proven institutional cooking experience.
  • Familiarity with Asian cuisine and use of industrial size wok an asset.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Knowledge of Chinese an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cooks food and snacks according to menu/recipe, ensuring appetizing appearance.
  • Pre-prepares menu items including vegetarian selections.
  • Inspects and tastes food for quality, and accurately portions and serves to residents.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and production areas.
  • Monitors temperatures and stock, reports replenishment needs to management.
  • Assists in receiving deliveries and ensures order accuracy.
  • Follows safety, health and regulatory standards and risk management policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Cook II - Casual Part-Time
Responsibilities
  • Prepares and cooks food and snacks according to pre-determined requirements, palatability and menu/recipe, ensuring an appetizing appearance
  • Pre-prepares menu items according to menu (regular and vegetarian)
  • Inspects and tastes food for quality
  • Accurately portions and serves food to residents
  • Performs food preparation
  • Complies with sanitary regulations in the food preparation process
  • Maintains and cleans equipment
  • Maintains production areas, storage rooms and refrigeration areas are in a clean and organized condition
  • Responsible for taking temperature log of refrigerator/freezer and food temperature
  • Monitors food stock and makes timely report to management for replenishment
  • Responsible for stock rotation
  • Assists in receiving delivery and ensuring accuracy of order delivered
  • Complies with risk management policy for health and safety and GHS
  • Follows protocols to comply with standards from Ministry, public health and other regulatory body
  • Keeps up-to-date with developments and best practices in the field
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Completion of Chef Training diploma or diploma/certificate/apprenticeship in Culinary Management, Cook, Food and Nutrition or equivalent
  • Current Food Handler Safety Certificate
  • Minimum 3 years proven institutional cooking experience
  • Familiarity with Asian cuisine and use of industrial size wok an asset
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of quantity food production, and knowledge of sanitation and safety standards for food services area
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • Knowledge of Chinese an asset

  • Considerable standing, walking and lifting throughout the day
  • Shift work, including weekend
  • Exposed to heat, humidity and food waste
