Job summary

Optima Living is seeking a Cook Level I to prepare nutritious, high-quality meals for residents in a compassionate, sanitary manner. You will work under the supervision of the Food Services or Support Services Manager, following dietary needs and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a recognized culinary institute is an asset.
• Minimum of one year experience in food preparation.
• Experience in a residential care or mental health environment is an asset.
• Comprehensive food services knowledge including sanitation and presentation.
• Maintains an active Food Safe certification.
• CPR and First Aid certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food using methods such as roasting, frying, grilling, steaming and baking as directed.
• Organizes ingredients and equipment for food preparation.
• Cooks and seasons menu items including therapeutic diet items.
• Plans cooking schedule to match menu and nutritional value.
• Monitors food safety through temperatures and sanitation practices.
• Ensures proper rotation and inventory of supplies.
• Responds to emergencies in line with protocols.
• Maintains confidentiality of resident information.
• Contributes to quality improvement with feedback and ideas.
• Supports team with orientation and training as needed.
