Job summary

SSP Canada in Vancouver International Airport is hiring a Line Cook to support back‑of‑house operations. You will receive orders, prepare dishes, set up the kitchen, and ensure tools are accessible for your shift.

The role requires at least one year of food service experience, basic math, and strong verbal and written communication. A Food Handlers permit and Brand Certification may be required. Competitive hourly pay is offered.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Receive food orders and prepare dishes for guests.
  • Set up the kitchen and ensure tools are accessible during the shift.
  • Follow recipes, check portions, garnishes and presentation.
  • Set up, maintain, and clean equipment and machines.
  • Complete opening/closing control sheets when requested.
  • Stock and rotate stored products; manage storage areas.

At SSP Canada, we operate several restaurants at the Vancouver International Airport, including Whistler Taphouse & Grill, Lift Bar and Grill, Urban Crave and Sal y Limon. We take pride in delivering exceptional service and offering a diverse range of culinary experiences to our guests.

At SSP Canada, our Line Cooks have the important role of receiving food orders, preparing delicious dishes for our guests, properly setting up the kitchen so every Expert has the product and tools easily accessible during their shift. Our Line Cooks love working in the Back of House.

Here are a few things you can expect as a Cook at SSP Canada:

  • Follows the recipes, checks the portion of the recipes, the garnishes and present the dishes ordered.
  • Have the correct and adequate set up in the kitchen / work station at each shift. This includes making orders, storing, storing all fresh, dry, frozen goods; condiments and supplies.
  • Handle, store and rotate the stored products properly.
  • Setting up, regular maintenance, cleaning and proper functioning of assigned equipment and machines.
  • Complete the control sheets for opening, in progress and closing if requested.
  • Put all the utensils used during the shift in its place, clean and tidy up its work place as well as the storage areas (includes refrigerators, freezers), empty, clean and store the bins.
  • Practice general and specific cleanings using the appropriate products as indicated by the manager in order to meet hygiene standards.
  • Take the instructions from the manager when taking office and take stock with the manager before leaving to make sure everything is in order

Skills and Other Requirements

  • One year minimum experience working in food service environment
  • High school diploma, preferred
  • Verbal and written communication is essential
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Food handlers permit, as required by law
  • Brand Certification, as required
  • Ability to stand and work in confined spaces for long period of time.
