Job summary

Shannex Incorporated’s Parkland Ajax team in Ajax, Ontario is seeking a Cook 1 to join our culinary team. You will prepare nutritious meals, work with an experienced team, and contribute to residents’ satisfaction in a healthcare setting.

The role offers a stable schedule and competitive benefits, with an approximate hourly wage of $25.94–$27.32. You’ll ensure food quality, safety and adherence to brand standards while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Culinary Arts Diploma and a valid Red Seal Journey man Cook Certificate.
  • Current Advanced Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of operational experience in a high-volume kitchen.
  • Knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
  • Experience in preparing large quantities of food.
  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Executes departmental policies, procedures and guidelines as a member of the divisional Food Services Team.
  • Executes food services for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in accordance with Brand Standards.
  • Executes food service for Supportive Living Lifestyle options in accordance with Brand Standards.
  • Executes food services for special functions such as catering and theme dinners to ensure service meets established standards.
  • Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards; ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely.
  • Introduces self to new resident in the dining rooms as part of resident orientation / welcome.
  • Responds to resident food service needs and expectations in accordance to service expectations.
  • Executes the process for checking and receiving of deliveries and inventory control; ensures all supplies are stored, labelled, and rotated properly.
  • Executes the preparation processes for meal service.
  • Effectively uses all available resources towards satisfaction and financial goals.
  • Leverages menus, menu costs, recipe binders, and production sheets to guide food preparation.
  • Participates in the new menu development process.
  • Maintains safety and sanitation in the department to meet legislative / organizational standards.
  • Adheres to both provincial and Shannex food safety standards and holds team to the same standards.
  • Additional duties as assigned/required.

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:
