Job summary

Aspira Bartlett 55+ Lifestyle Apartments in Oshawa is hiring a casual Cook to prepare nutritious, high-quality meals tailored to residents' dietary needs and cultural preferences. You will work in a fast-paced kitchen, supporting residents’ health and wellbeing while collaborating with a caring team.

Applicants should have Grade 12, Safe Food Handling/Smart Serve, and the ability to work flexibly. A VSC check is required and eligibility to work in Canada must be confirmed.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience preparing meals in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Ability to meet prescribed dietary requirements and proper food temperatures.
• Monitor quality of food supplies and advise on corrective actions.
• In the absence of the team leader, assume responsibility for departmental operations.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada and pass a Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Current Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates.

What makes you a great fit?

• You have hands-on experience preparing meals and snacks in a fast-paced kitchen, following recipes, production sheets, and menu guidelines.
• You understand the importance of meeting prescribed dietary requirements, proper food temperatures, and portion control while maintaining high quality standards.
• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers

What You Need To Know

• Grade 12 minimum education required
• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit
• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check
