NSB Omega in St. John’s, NL is seeking a Controls Technologist/Engineer for a 21/21 offshore rotational role. The candidate will support industrial automation,PLC/HMI/DCS integration, and drive systems used in drilling operations.
Responsibilities include troubleshooting, diagnostics, root cause analysis, and software support across PLC, HMI, and network platforms, with offshore readiness required.
Qualifications
- 10+ years in industrial control system programming and troubleshooting.
- 2+ years programming Siemens S7-1500 PLCs using the Siemens TIA Portal platform with WinCC RT Advanced.
- OT background with strong industrial Ethernet and IP networking experience.
- Experience with PROFIBUS and PROFINET communications over copper and fiber.
- Experience troubleshooting control system integration issues involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and DCS.
- Experience with medium-voltage VFD drive systems is considered an asset.
- Experience with Active Front End (AFE) and Diode Front End (DFE) drive topologies is considered an asset.
- Previous experience with VFD-based drilling drive systems, including interfaces to top drive and draw works control systems, is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, network architectures, control narratives, and functional specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Candidate must have ability/be medically cleared to complete offshore training and work offshore NL.

NSB Omega is searching for a Controls Technologist/Engineer for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in St. John's, NL for a 21/21 offshore Rotational role.
Cenovus is seeking a Controls Technologist/Engineer with a strong industrial automation and programming background. The successful candidate will serve as the primary technical support resource for several custom-engineered medium-voltage VFD drilling drive systems operating in a production environment. These systems are tightly integrated with OEM drilling equipment including top drive and draw works control systems, and exchange operational data with the site's Distributed Control System (DCS) through industrial communications networks. The role will focus on troubleshooting, diagnostics, root cause analysis, software support, and control system integration across PLC, HMI, network, and drive system platforms.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in industrial control system programming and troubleshooting.
- Minimum 2 years' experience programming Siemens S7-1500 PLCs using the Siemens TIA Portal platform with WinCC RT Advanced.
- Operational Technology (OT) background with strong industrial Ethernet and IP networking experience.
- Experience with PROFIBUS and PROFINET communications over both copper and fiber-optic media.
- Experience troubleshooting control system integration issues involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
- Experience with medium-voltage variable frequency drive systems is considered an asset.
- Experience with Active Front End (AFE) and Diode Front End (DFE) drive topologies is considered an asset.
