Summary:
Reporting to the Automation Manager, the incumbent will work closely with the engineering, assembly, electrical and purchasing teams and interface with all facets of the group to meet the quoted timing and budgets set forth by the project manager. Controls Technician will be responsible for supporting the selection of hardware and the design of systems to be used in automation equipment. Controls Technician is expected to work with the team and ensure that the safety, reliability, and quality of the equipment meets or exceeds our customers’ expectations.

Responsibilities:
• Regularly review with the engineering team to understand machine intent and create the PLC programming.
• Support the controls manager as directed in creating a BOM to source electrical and controls components that meet timelines, find alternatives as needed.
• Ensure created programs meet all required safety guidelines and customer specific requirements.
• Support the commission and debug of machines, working with assembly and engineering teams to solve start-up issues.
• Create fault recovery logic that increases the utility of our product to minimize the downtime and ease of use of machinery.
• Support installation at customer site, as needed.
• Service equipment already in the field.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for work.
Qualifications:
• Degree or diploma related to Industrial Automation
• Experience with: PLC (AB, Siemens, Omron); Servo drives; Sensors; Ultrasonic welding and punching; HMI interfaces; Robot integration
• Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• Understanding of mechanical principals
• An aptitude for troubleshooting and debug skills
• Electrical design experience is an asset
• Robotic programming experience is an asset
