Job summary

GDI Ainsworth is seeking a Controls Journeyman Electrician to join our Edmonton automation team. You will install, commission and service commercial building automation systems, with emphasis on HVAC controls and low-voltage installations in accordance with code and safety standards.

The role requires knowledge of building electrical and mechanical systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to read electrical schematics.

Qualifications

• Experience with HVAC controls and building automation systems.
• Commercial or construction installations experience required.
• Clear communications in English, written and oral.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with reading electrical sketches; PLC exposure is an asset.

Job Summary:

We are currently looking for Controls Journeyman Electricians to join our growing automation Edmonton team. As a Journeyman, you will be involved in the installation, commissioning and servicing of commercial building automation systems. This position requires a good working knowledge of electronic theory and Building Electrical / Mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Installs, wiring, BMS and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
• Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of installations.
• Repairs and maintains low voltage systems (under 120V).
• Assist in delivering BAS solutions to our customer base within the Construction/Operation Department.
• Assist with site commissioning, point to point verifications, troubleshooting and startup of a variety of Building Automation Systems.
• Appropriately handles and is familiar with all testing and electrical repair tools and equipment.
• Perform tasks with minimum supervision and in accordance with Ainsworth GDI Health & Safety policies and procedures
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abandoning and in accordance with all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental company policies and government legislation/regulations.
• Adhere to the Company’s Quality System operating procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
• Understand fundamentals of how HVAC systems operate on commercial buildings.
• Work with and understand HVAC and Digital Control fundamentals.

Qualifications:

• Valid Driver’s license.
• Experience with HVAC controls, building automation systems and VFD’s required
• Commercial / Construction installations experience required
• Clear communications in English – both written and oral.
• Strong trouble shooting skills.
• Ambitious learner who wants to progress in their career for building systems.
• Experience working with low voltage.
• Experience with programming languages or IT infrastructure an asset.
• Experience in PLC an asset.
• Ability to read and draw simple electrical sketches and schematics
• Excellent command of the English Language, both written and oral
• Strong attention to detail, ability to execute precision work
