Job summary

Jobtailor in Calgary is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls engineer to support projects across DBM, FEED and Detailed Design.

You will ensure compliance with API, ASME and CSA standards, interface with multidisciplinary teams and suppliers, size field instrumentation, valves, and prepare I/O lists, MTOs and TBEs.

The role requires strong problem-solving, written and verbal communication, teamwork and adaptability to deliver robust control systems for oil and gas projects.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Instrumentation Technology or engineering degree required.
• Minimum four years of Instrumentation & Controls experience.
• Knowledge of API, ASME, CSA codes and standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in multidisciplinary engineering environments preferred.
• APEGA registration desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support projects across DBM, FEED and Detailed Design.
• Ensure compliance with engineering procedures and quality control standards.
• Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams and equipment suppliers.
• Specify and size field instrumentation, control valves, on/off valves, and pressure safety valves.
• Prepare and review instrument indexes, I/O lists, load lists, and related documentation.
• Develop material take-offs (MTOs).
• Support selection and procurement of DCS, PLC, and Fire & Gas Systems hardware.
• Prepare and review instrument loop diagrams, control cabinet designs, and wiring documentation.
• Review vendor data and drawings from other disciplines.
• Provide instrumentation and controls input to P&ID development.
• Develop instrumentation and controls technical content for assigned project work.
• Maintain communication with equipment vendors and suppliers.
• Prepare MR's, TBEs, and award recommendations.

Job description

• Support execution of projects across Studies, Design Basis Memoranda (DBM), Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), and Detailed Design
• Assure compliance with engineering procedures and quality control standards
• Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams and equipment suppliers
• Specify, select, and size field instrumentation, control valves, on/off valves, and pressure safety valves
• Prepare and review instrument indexes, I/O lists, load lists, and related documentation
• Develop material take-offs (MTOs)
• Support selection and procurement of DCS, PLC, and Fire & Gas Systems hardware
• Prepare and review instrument loop diagrams, control cabinet designs, and wiring documentation
• Perform squad checks of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines
• Provide instrumentation and controls input to P&ID development
• Develop instrumentation and controls technical content for assigned project work
• Maintain communication with equipment vendors and suppliers
• Prepare Material Requisitions (MRs), Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs), and award recommendations

Requirements

• Diploma in Instrumentation Technology or Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
• Minimum four years of industry experience in Instrumentation & Controls engineering
• Good understanding of API, ASME, and CSA codes, standards, and directives
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
• Oil & Gas industry experience desirable
• Experience using AVEVA Instrumentation or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) desirable
• Registration with, or eligibility for registration through, APEGA desirable
