Job summary

Acero Engineering Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer for a 3–6 month contract with potential extension. Responsibilities include reviewing solar and battery storage drawings, designing AC and DC systems, and coordinating with project teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6–15 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in Oil and Gas Facilities in Western Canada.
• Must have experience with solar farms and battery storage drawings review.
• Must be registered with APEGA (P.Eng.).
• Strong knowledge of electrical code, standards, specs etc.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Project, Visio, PowerPoint.
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines as required by clients.

Responsibilities

• Review solar farms and battery storage drawings and vendor documents; respond to RFIs.
• Develop and review preliminary and detailed designs of AC (low, medium, high voltage) and DC systems including PV blocks and MV collection systems.
• Perform load flow and short-circuit analyses; calculate DC/AC losses and cable ampacity.
• Size and specify main power transformers; prepare procurement specs and construction documents.
• Provide technical oversight and communicate electrical installation details to construction teams.
• Collaborate with other design areas and third-party contractors to plan and execute project activities.
• Prepare weekly project updates on electrical engineering design progress for mgmt review.

Job description

Acero Engineering Inc. (“Acero”), a growing oil & gas facilities engineering company providing engineering, procurement and construction management expertise is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to fill one role as a full-time Electrical Engineer (3 - 6 month contract role, potential for extension).

Acero is focused on facility and pipeline engineering, procurement and construction management services; from concept evaluation to plant start-up. Our core service offering is in-house project management, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering, project engineering, procurement, regulatory services, civil and structural engineering, and construction management.

Responsibilities

• Solar farms and battery storage drawings review, vendor document review and RFIs
• Develops and reviews the preliminary and detailed design of AC (Low, Medium, and High Voltage) and DC systems, including DC power blocks (PV) and MV AC collection systems (PV/Wind).
• Develops models of the AC substation and collection systems and performs and reviews Load Flow and Short Circuit analyses, DC and AC loss calculations, cable ampacity studies, and AC/DC cable sizing.
• Performs and reviews calculations for sizing and specifying main power transformers.
• Prepares and reviews specifications and construction documents to identify design and performance requirements for procurement of electrical materials and equipment.
• Performs technical review of proposed equipment to ensure acceptability to company, client, and industry standards.
• Works with designers to develop and review construction drawings and documentation to communicate electrical installation details effectively to construction teams.
• Provides input to team members working on other project areas, including grounding system design, substation design, and medium voltage collection system design.
• Prepares and analyzes weekly project updates for electrical engineering design progress for project management.
• Providing appropriate engineering input and technical oversight to design activities undertaken by design/drafting staff residing within or outside the project team.
• Collaborating with third party contractors, and internal project teams to determine, plan, organize, and supervise project activities and achieve project objectives.
• Providing capital, expense and engineering cost estimates for small to large sized projects in collaboration with all other disciplines.
• Other tasks/responsibilities, as required

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

• Minimum of 6 – 15 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in Oil and Gas Facilities in Western Canada
• Must have experience with solar farms and battery storage drawings review
• Must be registered with APEGA (P.Eng.)
• Strong knowledge of electrical code, standards, specs etc.
• Knowledge of CEC and Regulations
• Understanding and working effectively with Word, Excel, Project, Visio, Powerpoint
• Excellent team collaboration and interpersonal skills
• Strong written, verbal, analytical and critical thinking skills
• Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines as occasionally demanded by our clients
