CGT has its roots in the Victoria Wheel Works, which provided wagon wheels for the transportation trade of the time. What we do?

We formulate custom thermoplastic sheeting using advanced capabilities, supported by engineering, design, production, sales, and support teams, enabling us to meet high-quality standards and tight timelines.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Maintenance, the Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing electrical and mechanical control systems, examining plant processes, and implementing improvements to increase efficiency and productivity. The role involves providing technical support for PLC hardware and software, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and guidance to operations and maintenance teams, including troubleshooting and programming.
  • Manage projects from design to installation, including budgeting and communication.
  • Research and recommend component upgrades.
  • Design new control systems or modify existing ones, ensuring documentation is current.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel and contractors.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Electrical/Controls Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven project management experience, including capital projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PLC, HMI, VFD programming (Siemens, Rockwell, ABB).
  • Knowledge of Safety PLC programming and risk assessment for safety projects.
  • Experience with vision systems like Keyence or Cognex.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking solutions (Ethernet IP, Device Net, TCP/IP).
  • Experience in batch weight, web handling processes is a plus.
  • Electrical safety training and knowledge of electrical codes.
  • Experience managing skilled trades and contractors in unionized settings is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
