Job summary

Mpac Group, through Mpac Langen Americas in Mississauga, is seeking a Controls Designer to lead design, debugging and delivery of automated packaging machinery. You will collaborate with Project Managers and Operations to ensure on-time, on-budget projects from build through FAT and customer installation.

You will program and debug PLCs, set up servos and motion devices, update schematics and ensure safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • BSc or equivalent technical education in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in electrical automation and industrial machinery.
  • Experience with packaging machinery or high-speed automation is a strong asset.
  • Solid working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario safety standards, including Control Reliable Design and PSR legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Machine debugging: software programming and electrical debugging activities for Mpac Langen machinery.
  • Programming & control systems: load and modify PLC programs; set up servos, VFDs, and other motion/control devices.
  • Collaboration & support: work with wiring teams; provide programming support during FATs; support installation during commissioning; travel to customer sites for debugging.

Mpac Langen Americas is looking for a Controls Designer to play a pivotal role in the design, debugging, and delivery of cuttingedge automated packaging machinery. If you thrive in a handson technical role and enjoy seeing complex machines come to life, from shop floor debugging to customer commissioning, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

You'll work closely with Project Managers and Operations teams to ensure machines are delivered on time, on budget, and to specification, supporting projects from build through Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and customer installation.

What You'll Be Doing
Machine Debugging
  • Software programming and electrical debugging activities for Mpac Langen machinery
  • Prepare machines for debugging and FAT by powering up, verifying I/O wiring, and validating electrical circuits
  • Debug and test machines to ensure full compliance with project specifications
Programming & Control Systems
  • Load and modify PLC programs and perform programming on standard components
  • Set up servos, VFDs, and other motion/control devices
  • Develop offline programs for machines or specific machine functions
  • Prepare ladder logic design patches during installation and commissioning phases
Collaboration & Support
  • Work closely with wiring teams to resolve electrical issues and approve machines for debugging
  • Provide programming support during customer FATs
  • Support installation during commissioning of new machines
  • Travel to customer sites to provide electrical debugging support during machine installation
Documentation & Compliance
  • Update and mark up electrical schematics as required
  • Ensure adherence to internal work instructions and safety standards
  • Follow all company and customer safety rules on the shop floor and onsite
What You'll Bring
  • BSc or equivalent technical education in Electrical Engineering
  • Proven experience in electrical automation and industrial machinery
  • Experience with packaging machinery or highspeed automation is a strong asset
  • Solid working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical
  • Strong understanding of Ontario safety standards, including:
