Job summary

Innovative Automation Inc. in Newmarket, Ontario, is seeking a full-time Controls Programmer to develop software for controlling specialized automated equipment.

The role involves collaborating across departments to define scope, design, and verify automation solutions for manufacturing systems. The ideal candidate has a diploma in electrical engineering or equivalent experience, 2+ years in automation or automotive manufacturing, and familiarity with Rockwell, Siemens, and Omron software.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent specialized experience.
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in Automation or Automotive Manufacturing.
  • Welding technology training would be an asset.
  • Experience with Rockwell/Siemens/Omron software packages.
  • Robot programming experience with ABB/Fanuc is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with department managers, group leaders and project management on project status.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Project Management, Mechanical and Controls Design on scope and engineering of projects.
  • Partner with electricians and programmers to guide project requirements.
  • Design and commission automation systems for assemblies, material handling, robotics, vision and safety systems.
  • Troubleshoot automation issues on the shop floor.
  • Backup and storage of programs per Mecsmart standards.
  • Understand Mecsmart’s scheduling and budget requirements.
  • Communicate project status and potential solutions to management and customers.
  • Occasional travel as required globally.

Job Opportunity

We are looking for a full-time Controls Programmer to create programs and develop software for the purpose of controlling specialized automated equipment.

What You’ll Do
  • Collaborate with all department managers, group leaders, and project management pertaining to the status of projects.
  • Work with Sales, Project Management, Mechanical Design and Controls Design pertaining to scope, concept and engineering of current and probable projects.
  • Work in partnership with electricians and programmers pertaining to the guidance/supervision of project requirements.
  • Design and commission Automation Systems for: assembly systems, material handling systems, robotic cells, vision inspection systems, industrial safety systems.
  • Troubleshoot Automation issues on the shop floor.
  • Backup and storage of programs as per Mecsmart standards.
  • Understand Mecsmart’s scheduling and budget requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with management, fellow staff, and customers the status of current projects, project concerns and possible solutions.
  • Occasional travel as required globally.
What You’ll Need
  • Minimum Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent Specialized Experience
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience within the Automation or Automotive Manufacturing field
  • Welding technology training would be an asset
  • Previous experience required with the following software packages:
    • Rockwell Studio 5000
    • Siemens TIA Portal
    • Omron CX-One/Omron Sysmac Studio
  • Knowledge and ability to program robots would be an asset:
    • ABB
    • Fanuc
